If there was one thing that Dr. Percy Cane, B.Sc., M.Sc., M.A., Ph.D., Sc.D., Head of Electrical Engineering, Oracle Red Bull Racing, knew how to do then it was how to hold a grudge. 

Percy had a very long memory. He could recall every single slight, every single wrong that had ever been done to him. And each of those slights and wrongs were marked down in the long list of grudges he held.

Percy knew a lot of things. He was an actual genius after all. With two doctorate, a IQ of around 150 and enough other degrees to prove it. 

He also knew that he was absolutely helpless at most of the stuff other people considered normal. That's what his sisters said at least. 

He could still remember, a very long time ago, his father sitting him down and telling him that protecting his little sisters was going to be his job. 

Percy had failed utterly at that. He was very much aware at that. 

If there had been somebody protecting somebody else, then it had always been Ariel, protecting both him and Emma. 

Ariel. Ariel Josephine Cane. 3 years, 7 months, 20 days younger than him. 

His little sister. His. 

There weren't many people he claimed at his. But Ariel and Emma were his family. The only family they still had. 

He was also very much aware that Ariel had given up her teenage years for them. There had been no going out to parties. No underage drinking. There had been no time at University for Ariel where she hadn't been burdened down with the looking after Emma and him...with going grocery shopping and running the household and keeping on top of the bills and cooking. He had helped. Some. 

But sadly an IQ of 153 did not mean that he was able to cook an egg without it exploding apparently. 

And it also didn't mean that his sister's teachers found it particularly pleasant when he questioned their degree after a completely unfair math assessment from Emma. (He still thought that Mr. Henry Payne had bought his teacher degree online. Ariel had told him to shut up.) 

Percy was self-aware enough to know that there were certain things he was incredibly bad at. Cooking being one off the top of his head. He had tried, he really had. But in the end, a kitchen and him just didn't mix well.

He was also aware that his social skills and emotional intelligence could be considered lacking. It was something that never really came naturally to him, this whole connecting with people thing. He was never sure quite what to say or how to behave in social situations. It was... frustrating, to put it mildly.

But even him...Even Percy Cane who was very, very bad with people...He was not going to stand for anybody putting his hands on his little sister. He was not.

Jos Verstappen would regret the day he was born. That much was certain.

The mere idea made his blood boil.

He had never been the violent type. But in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to wipe that smirk off Verstappen's face. Permanently.

Sadly, he also couldn't throw a punch. Though maybe Connor would be willing to help him. But then...that wasn't thorough enough.

Percy knew that resorting to physical violence wasn't the answer. It wouldn't be enough. It wouldn't be nearly enough to make Verstappen pay for what he had done to his little sister.

No, Percy had a far more effective weapon at his disposal. He was a genius after all. And he wasn't above using his rather above-average intelligence to make Verstappen's life a living hell.

He was going to make the man's life a living nightmare. Every single aspect of it. He would dig up every single dirty secret. He would contact every single person that Verstappen had ever wronged or slighted. He would ruin him, reputationally, financially, emotionally. He would ensure that Jos Verstappen would be left with nothing. No money, no friends, no allies, not even a good reputation.

He would start by digging into his past. Every piece of dirt, every skeleton in the closet Verstappen thought he had locked safe, Percy would find it all.

And then he would use all of that to publicly ruin him. His reputation would be absolutely destroyed.

It was a long game to play, but Percy played the game of chess at a grandmasters level. And he was patient. He could wait.

He was going to destroy him entirely and completely.

And it wasn't like he couldn't have his fun in the meantime, right?

There was absolutely nothing that stopped him from finding out Jos Verstappen's email address and sign him up to every spam mail he could find.

He couldn't wait for the man to be flooded with an onslaught of unsolicited newsletters, scam emails, and countless offers of online gambling and adult entertainment websites.

It was just a fraction of the torment that he had planned for the man...but it would be a good start.

Maybe sign him up for some online courses.

Some philosophy? He didn't seem to have much of that.

Or perhaps...

Percy smirked as he navigated the online course platform, searching for just the right subject. After a few moments, he found what he was looking for: "Introduction to Anger Management for Beginners".

He couldn't wait to see the look on Verstappen's face when he realized he was now enrolled in a course teaching him how to control his temper. It was almost poetic, in a way.

Percy couldn't help but chuckle as he hit the sign-up button. "Let's see if you can actually learn something," he said to himself.

He highly doubted that actually, but education was good for everybody.

Anyway, that was just the start. It wasn't enough. Not by a far shot. But it was a start. 

His hands drummed against the dining room table for a moment.

He had dealt with Jos Verstappen.

Now it was time to deal with Max Verstappen.

Ariel's now...boyfriend if Emma's ungodly screeching and dancing around the room had taught him anything.

Percy winced at the thought of his sisters' reaction to the news. Emma had started performing some sort of victory celebration dance that included a lot of jumping and singing off key.

Ariel loved Max. Had loved him for years. Even Percy wasn't that blind.

He had seen the way Ariel's face lit up when she talked about him. He had seen the way she softened when he came into a room. He had seen the way her eyes tracked him whenever they were in the same room together.

Percy was many things, but he was not blind. He could see how head over heels in love his little sister was with Max Verstappen.

She could do worse, he supposed. Granted, she also could do better.

But she wanted Max, so Max would need to suffice.

Percy grudgingly admitted that Max Verstappen wasn't the worst choice his little sister could have made. At least the man had a good heart underneath everything else.

And, most importantly, he made Ariel happy. At the end of the day, that is what truly mattered to Percy.

But that didn't mean Percy was going to let him off easy. No, he was still going to give Max Verstappen a good old-fashioned "don't you dare mess with my baby sister or I will end you" speech.

Or more exactly... the 40 page document that told Max Verstappen exactly what kind of behaviour was appropriate and definitely wasn't appropriate towards Ariel Cane and that Percy Cane had been working on for 5 years. 

That was appropriate older brother behaviour, regardless of what Connor wanted to tell him.

You and I have coexisted in a professional capacity for some time. As Head of Electrical Engineering, I am well aware of your talents behind the wheel. While I respect your ability to follow telemetry data and navigate complex racing strategies, I am under no illusion that this translates into competence in the far more intricate task of maintaining a healthy, supportive relationship with a woman of my sister's caliber.

Ariel is a person of exceptional intelligence, unparalleled kindness, and unyielding patience—qualities that, frankly, you lack in sufficient quantity to match hers. Her value is not up for debate, nor does it require validation from you or anyone else. 

You are someone whose primary skill lies in pressing a pedal and turning a wheel at high speeds while driving a car around engineered circles. While this skill has evidently brought you fame and a modicum of fortune, it does not, in my estimation, qualify you to be a suitable partner for someone as exceptional as her—yet here we are.

My sister is not your pit crew. She is neither here to fix you when you're broken nor adjust her life to accommodate your lapses in maturity or judgment. If you treat her as such, you will find yourself uncomfortably acquainted with the concept of consequences—both professional and personal.

Reliability Beyond the Track: I will assume you possess at least a baseline awareness that her well-being now partially rests in your hands. This is, frankly, an unsettling thought. I have observed your performance on the track and in team meetings, and while you are undoubtedly capable under controlled conditions, I question whether your ability to maintain composure under personal and emotional strain is as well-developed. My sister deserves stability, not the emotional equivalent of an unpredictable gearbox.

Long-Term Planning: My sister is not a temporary fixture in your life. If you are unable or unwilling to build a future with her in which her dreams and aspirations are given equal importance to your own, then you have no business being in her life.

Ferrari = have never written to them as postage is expensive (Italy) and they're said to not often respond.

Haas = Have written to them (England), have never received a response. Apparently they send very rarely.

VCARB = have never written to them (Italy), but I've heard they do respond.

Step On It

Bruce frowns as he takes in the mess on the kitchen table. Alfred left for his annual leave in England three days ago, and the amount of clutter that has already accumulated is a little embarrassing.

Dick mostly kept his toys in his room or the family room, where he spent the most time. He kept a close eye on his things, used to living in tight quarters that could be packed up at a moment’s notice, 

Jason – Bruce forces his mind to go there – always left books on every flat surface on the Manor that would only occasionally migrate back to his room or the library.

Unlike any of his predecessors, Tim strews his things around the Manor like… like a regular teenage boy. Disposable cameras in the family room. Case files in the library. Computer parts in the parlor.

Sighing, Bruce sorts through the mess of stakeout photos, Spanish flashcards, and takeout menus for the paper invitation to Lucius’s 50th birthday. He moves yesterday’s Planet to reveal a paper folded in thirds with Gotham Academy Annual Art Showcase displayed in modern, jaunty sans-serif font. Intrigued, Bruce flips open the flier, glossing over the headings until he lands on “Photography”. Sure enough, he finds one “Timothy Drake (10)” halfway down the list of names.

Without another thought, he keys the time into his personal calendar. He’ll be a few minutes late if his 4PM runs over, but he’ll still be able to make it. Speaking of timing, Bruce should have left ten minutes ago. The table, still a mess, has to wait.

Five cups of coffee, a couple hundred emails, and approximately a thousand slides later, Bruce taps his fingers on the conference table, smiling and nodding along to whatever the hell Mr. Klein is saying. All that’s left in this presentation is the budget, which Klein has impressively dragged out to 27 minutes and counting.

The first time Bruce falls asleep, he dozes off with his eyes open, and nobody catches on but Lucius, who just exhales a silent, put-upon sigh. The second time, Bruce falls asleep five minutes after the meeting was supposed to end. He wakes, inexplicably annoyed that nobody noticed. 

Naturally, he then pretends to fall asleep, slump over in his chair, nearly fall out of said chair, and “wake up” with a loud yelp.

“Sorry,” Bruce says to the assembled department heads with a slightly manic grin. “Damn, those are some impressive numbers, aren’t they?” he says, gesturing grandly to the PowerPoint slide, now showing an org chart of the finance department. “Carry on, Keith.”

Klein grimaces. “As I was saying…”

Bruce settles back in his chair, mollified. Serves Klein right for keeping them all here past 6pm on a Friday.

A minute later, his phone chirps with a notification: 7:00 PM Gotham Academy Art Showcase.

Bruce swears under his breath. Oh right, that was today. He has a dozen more emails to send, and he needs to speak with Lucius about adding a new, extra-resistant polymer to the soles of Robin’s boots. After that, he has to drive across the entire city.

He mentally shunts half of his least-urgent emails to tomorrow’s to-do list. Lucius is in this meeting with him, so, short of pulling the fire alarm or strangling Klein with his own tie, Bruce is stuck.

Bruce officially leaves the office at 7:38. He slides into the Audi, cursing up a storm. Thank god Alfred isn’t here because he would dust off Dick’s old swear jar and just drop Bruce’s whole wallet inside.

Jaw clenched, Bruce slams his foot on the gas and flips on Oracle’s Green Light protocol. But with Gotham’s rush hour traffic, even a steady influx of green lights can’t get the overstuffed lanes of cars to move much faster.

He skids into Gotham Academy’s parking lot at 8:51. For god’s sake, the event started at almost two hours ago. This is unforgivable.

Bruce bursts through the front doors, his heart sinking as he takes in the empty welcome table. Face set, he takes the hallways at a dead sprint only to stop short in front of the closed auditorium doors. He’s too late.

Laughter off to his left catches him off guard.

A group of kids are making their way to him, their Gotham Academy ties undone and blazers slung over their arms.

“Excuse me,” Bruce says, forcing a non-threatening smile, “I’m here for the Art Showcase?”

One kid frowns up at him, and Bruce’s heart sinks. “Dude,” he says, “You’re, like, super late.”

The smile drops. Curtly, he says, “I am aware.”

“I think they’re still breaking down in the gym, though?” another kid says, the first piece of useful information Bruce has heard all day.

With a hurried, “Thank you,” he takes off in the opposite direction as he hears behind him, “Holy shit, was that Bruce Wayne?”

The showcase in the gym is indeed in the middle of being dismantled. Half the art is gone, but with the classy, black dividers blocking his view, Bruce can’t just make a beeline for the photography section. 

Around the next corner, overhears, “Just five more minutes, Tim. How about that?”

“It’s fine, Ms. Fowler,” Tim answers, his voice impatient. As Bruce stops short, ears piqued, Tim continues, “I told you, my family isn’t coming.”

Bruce’s heart clenches at the resignation in Tim’s voice. Well, Bruce can’t let that stand a moment longer. He steps around the next divider. “Sorry I’m late, chum!” he announces in a carrying voice. “Traffic from the office was sheer murder.”

Tim’s head whips around from where he’s talking in the communal Photography area with a small, middle-aged woman wearing a blazer and sensible shoes. Paint crusts in the creases of her hands, and her bright red cat’s eye glasses might as well scream art teacher.

Jaw hanging open, Tim mouths a completely silent and bewildered, “Bruce?”

“Oh, Tim!” Ms. Fowler says, sounding elated. “Look, your father is here. And just in time too!”

Bruce isn’t sure whether to first address her blatant lie that he is remotely on time or the mistaken assumption that he is Tim’s father. But before he can utter a word, Tim cuts him off, his eyes widening in alarm. “C’mon, Dad, ” he says to Bruce’s surprise, “my exhibition is back here.” He reaches out to snag Bruce by the hand, and Bruce, still beyond confused, follows.

“Take all the time you need, Tim!” Ms. Fowler calls to their retreating backs.

They enter a smaller photography nook, Tim’s photography nook. 

“Why did you call me – ” Bruce starts.

“Forget that, no time. What’s the emergency?” Tim demands in a hissed whisper. “I didn’t miss a call, did I? I was just about to pack up and head to the Cave.”

Bruce doesn’t respond at once, entranced by a picture of the ballroom immediately post-gala, the floor strewn with glitter and dropped glasses. A single table holds all the leftover bottles of champagne. The enormous room looms large and empty. A lone napkin hangs from the chandelier – no doubt Dick’s work – but it looks like a flag of surrender to the useless opulence of the elite. 

It takes a second for his brain to catch up with Tim’s words. Confused, Bruce repeats, “What emergency?”

Tim makes a face like Bruce is being the dense one. “The emergency that brought you here?”

“Your photography?”

“My photography is an emergency?” Tim asks, his frown deepening into a classic expression of teenaged offense. “You never seemed to have a problem with it before, especially when –”

Bruce holds up a hand. “That’s not what I meant.” He inhales a slow breath, trying to rein in his temper at feeling wrong-footed all evening. “There’s no emergency. I came to see your photography.”

If anything, Tim looks even more confused. “You came to - why would you -” He gives himself a little shake. “What? Why?"

“Why would I need a reason to see my kid’s photography in a prestigious art showcase they only put on once a year?” Bruce asks, eyebrows raised.

Tim’s jaw actually falls open.

“Unless… you didn’t actually want me here?” Bruce says, straightening up to his full height as his stomach drops to the floor. Tim didn’t tell him about his exhibition, after all. Maybe Bruce did find it by accident. But he has no idea why Tim would hide this from him. From all Bruce has absorbed in countless gallery openings and museum fundraisers, Tim has a decent eye. The photos are good, eye-catching and thought-provoking. And, most importantly, there’s not a single bat in sight.

“No, I was just surprised,” Tim says, his voice faint. He clears his throat. “I’m,” he swallows, “glad you came.”

“I’m glad too.” Bruce turns back to a photo, a shot of Wayne Tower at night, a full moon hovering overhead, slightly obscured by Gotham’s year-round haze of smog. “I like this one.

Tim gives himself a little shake before he says, in an undertone, “That’s kind of narcissistic, isn’t it?” His blue eyes dance with humor.

Bruce chuckles. “I didn’t hire the best renovators to make ugly buildings, Tim.”

“Yeah,” Tim smirks, “you’re not Lex Luthor.”

Bruce shakes his head in mock-sorrow. “Metropolis architecture truly has no character.”

Tim flips up the black tablecloth and hauls out an empty cardboard box. “Do you say that in front of Clark?”

Bruce nods. “Every time he calls my building ‘dark and broody’.”

“What?” Tim laughs, “That’s not a bad thing. It’s your brand!” He puts the ballroom photo in the box. 

Bruce picks up a photo of the local skatepark, the background figures blurs of motion. “I don’t know if I should be offended by that.”

Tim plucks the frame from his hands and drops it alongside the ballroom one. “C’mon, it’s not like you didn’t know.”

Bruce goes for a photo of what appears to be him, backlit by a roaring blaze in the fireplace in the parlor. 

“Not that one –” Tim starts, but it’s too late.

One hand holds a half-empty glass of whiskey. The other hand holds his head up – just barely. On his lap is a half-open book of a priceless first edition of Crime and Punishment. The last first edition he bought for Jason.

“I didn’t know you were there,” Bruce rasps out, “on the… on the anniversary.”

Tim snatches it out of his hands, his face Robin-red. “Just for a few minutes. I forgot something – I don’t remember what – but I knew you didn’t want to see me.”

Bruce exhales a slow breath. “No, that was wise.”

Tim nods jerkily, grabbing the last two photos without letting Bruce see them first. He stuffs them in the box and jams the lid down.

“You were leaving for your first meeting with the Teen Titans with Dick the day after,” Bruce says as he takes the box before Tim can get to it. “I didn’t want to spoil your good mood.”

Tim glances up at him, blue eyes wide. “Oh,” he says quietly.

Bruce taps the lid of the box. “Do you mind if we hang a few of these up in the Manor? In the family room or the library?”

“Uh, sure.”

“Good,” Bruce hefts the box higher and gestures for Tim to leave the photography nook first. “I’m glad we finally have something artistic to put up. Dick’s old spelling bee certificates really don’t have the same gravitas.”

Tim squints up at him as they leave the now-deserted gym. “Don’t you have two Rothkos?”

Bruce raises his eyebrows. “What’s your point, Tim?”

Tim ducks his head, but not before Bruce catches his pleased little smile. “Nothing, I guess.”

All the Strange Fates

There is only one LJ Smith’s Strange Fate, and I hope we’ll get to read it soon. But in the 25 year gap between books a number of other people have written their own Strange Fates. Let’s take a look at them!

Here is the list of the top ten things remotely called “Strange Fate” or “Night World book 10” that I could find. I read at least a few chapters of each to get a bit of an overview. There’s a lot of variation in how Strange Fate-ish they are, how good they are, and how finished they are. Fanfics do be like that.

Completed! Witch Sydney goes on a school trip to Belgium and shortly meets her soulmate, the arrogant vampire Alec. They join Circle Daybreak as the apocalypse approaches. This is a good story. It has lore, it has all the characters we know seen through the author’s eyes, it goes all the way to the apocalypse and an appropriate epilogue. Well done!

Completed! Also the first story going down this list to feature Sarah Strange, but she’s an ancient oracle soulmated to a dragon! This is a really original one, and it’s very cool.

Unfinished but very well written with long, meaty paragraphs. This author does the best so far at copying LJ Smith’s actual writing style. Our beloved characters plus some OC soulmates for the characters who need them.

Unfinished. Starring a young dragon born on the side of evil but choosing to become good. This is a neat original idea and I am here for it!

Unfinished, ends on a cliffhanger. POV jumps between all the characters as the apocalypse begins.

Unfinished. Based on the original Strange Fate back cover, Sarah’s soulmates are Blade and Kierlan. Shame this one’s unfinished, it does good stuff!

Unfinished but it gets to 37 chapters and they’re not teeny short chapters, so props for that! Another version of Sarah, Blade and Kierlan and well written.

Archive of Our Own delivered zero Strange Fates and Wattpad delivered one unfinished work that had basically nothing to do with the Night World except an appearance by Ash at the end. I liked reading these, seeing all the different ideas everybody had. Now I kinda want to try a good dragon protagonist growing up in an evil society, like a Night World Drizzt.

Another thing I noticed was that two stories kinda dunked on Gillian and David. One had them killed off, and in another the character totally roasted Gillian as being barely a witch who did evil with her powers as soon as she found out she had them. Which… valid, honestly! I think of Dark Angel as being Gillian’s origin story. Like Tony Stark she started pretty self centered and grew into a better person through her first adventure. It also struck me that Gillian could be a candidate for “witch who isn’t a witch” since she’s a witch who never got whatever moral instruction that girls in witch families get. What if now that Angel’s gone she goes looking for another patron creature… and connects with the dragons?? I don’t think so, I can’t imagine Ms. Smith doing that to one of her heroines, but it could be a valid plot!

...we need more Gillian sequels in this fandom. ^^;

But there was one more Strange Fate that I knew about. The one that fan tried to sell on a bunch of websites. Now that would be a unique addition to this post, and my Night World collection! But could I find it?

...well, yes. I emailed the author and she was happy to send me a copy no problem.

I was so excited.

Sadly she wasn’t… chatty-friendly. So it didn’t feel right to ask for details about the whole trying to get it published thing, no matter how much I want to know. Kindness and curiosity are both virtues, but when they come up against each other kindness should win. So we shall never know if she is a true madlass or just somehow managed to write a book-length fanfic without having enough contact with the community to know you can’t publish fanfics.

But was it any good?

Well… yes. To my surprise. It was. My expectations were really low, so I’m really impressed. Measured against traditionally published books the prose isn’t great, it’s clunky and clearly didn’t go through the rounds of edits that publishers impose. But measured against some of the fanfics I just read, it’s very well done. So I’d say it was on the level of other self published stuff. Not amazing, but readable. YMMV.

Sarah has become Davina Strange and she’s the fourth Wild Power, a plot point that makes sense, and by chapter 11 she’s been kidnapped by the baddies and we’re setting up Mal and Kierlan as rivals for her affection. The whole crowd of Night World characters haven’t really appeared yet, just Thierry, so I’m kinda “have fun juggling 18 supporting characters, that won’t be a challenge at all!” but it’ll be fun to see which ones get the spotlight. I don’t know how the rest of the story will go but I’m impatient to read more.

I have no idea if the author wants to be put on blast so dm me or whatever if you want a link, or look it up yourself, it wasn’t hard to find.

Just four months ago, the Fox News host Steve Doocy gave a social-media send-off to his young producer Ariel Abergel, who had announced that he was leaving the network. Alongside a montage of the two traveling through Iowa, Doocy reminisced about their three years together and affectionately razzed Abergel as “Ari the driver.”

Now Abergel, who finished college in 2021 and is in his mid-20s, finds himself in a much—much—bigger producing job: He’s been tasked by President Donald Trump with overseeing the nation’s 250th birthday celebration as executive director of America250. The congressionally authorized festivities, which kick off Saturday with a Washington parade to honor the Army, are backed by more than $100 million in expected congressional appropriations and are supposed to be a nonpolitical, nonpartisan affair. But Abergel’s new role has prompted concerns even from some Trump loyalists, as well as a backlash among participants who worry that his installation portends a bid by Trump to channel the patriotism surrounding the nation’s semiquincentennial into a celebration of himself.

Abergel’s operation helped fundraise for Trump’s speech on Tuesday at Fort Bragg, where the president denounced his political rivals before a backdrop of active-duty troops. The group is also planning a 250th Kickoff Celebration on July 4, at which Trump plans to announce the fulfillment of two campaign promises: plans for a Great America State Fair in 2026, and a new, federally backed Patriot Games to celebrate American sports. At both events, as well as Saturday’s parade, which falls on Trump’s 79th birthday, top donors have been promised a “dedicated VIP experience,” according to documents we obtained.

Trump and his advisers are eager to use the nation’s 250th anniversary to highlight the various ways that, in their view, his administration is making America great again. The president considers the semiquincentennial part of a rolling celebration that he will oversee, a White House official told us. In Trump’s expansive view, the events also include the 2026 FIFA World Cup—which the United States is hosting, along with Canada and Mexico—and the 2028 Summer Olympics, in Los Angeles.

Much like Saturday’s parade for the Army, celebrations for the Marines and Navy are being planned for this fall, when they, too, turn 250. A New Year’s Eve–style ball drop in Times Square is also being discussed for July 4, 2026—celebrating the Declaration of Independence turning 250, people familiar with the planning told us.

A list of new donors to the effort was announced this week and is filled with corporations whose leaders have sought to ingratiate themselves with the president—Ultimate Fighting Championship, Coinbase, Amazon, and Oracle, to name a few. Their tax-deductible donations do not go to Trump’s political committee, or the Republican Party, but to America250 Inc., a nonprofit group that was established in 2019 by a bipartisan, congressionally authorized commission that Abergel now runs.

On paper, the nonprofit represents the whole country, without any political agenda beyond patriotic celebration. It is backed by an America250 congressional caucus, with a bipartisan group of more than 280 members from the House and Senate. But in practice, the group has been functioning in recent weeks as an arm of Trump’s White House operation. Administration officials say that is appropriate because the Biden administration put its stamp on the early planning for the 250th celebration, and the White House was long expected to select the organization’s executive director.

Others, however, disagree. Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, a Democrat from New Jersey, said in a statement emailed to us that Trump’s leadership has been making decisions without informing or seeking the consent of the bipartisan commission that oversees America250. Watson Coleman, a member of the commission, said that she intended to “fight” to return the group to its nonpartisan purpose, and that Saturday’s parade was “being run under the banner of America250 without advance notice to, or consent from, the members of the Commission.”

“America250’s mission is to ‘engage, educate, and unite,’” Watson Coleman said in the statement. “That mission has been hijacked by Donald Trump. It is unfortunate that what was meant to unite the country and honor its history has been twisted into yet another scheme for his own personal gain.”

Abergel, who interned for Trump during his first term and worked briefly in First Lady Melania Trump’s office, has hired another recent college graduate, Aidan Golub, as his chief of staff, according to Golub’s LinkedIn account. He has brought over others from Fox News to help the organization, and added top campaign advisers to Trump, including the fundraiser Meredith O’Rourke, events planner Justin Caporale, and senior adviser Chris LaCivita. The former Fox News host Monica Crowley, who now serves as chief of protocol for the United States, has been appointed the “principal media representative” of America250. Several vendors who had been working on preparations for next year, meanwhile, have been fired.

An administration official familiar with the operation told us that Abergel helped plan large public events for Fox News when he worked there and is well qualified for the job. “He is taking something and fixing it,” this person said, after requesting anonymity to discuss internal matters at America250. “He is bringing in the best of the best.”

“Ari and the team have brought a fresh perspective to our programming that helps us connect with Americans across the country,” Rosie Rios, the chair of America250, who served as U.S. treasurer under President Barack Obama, told us in a statement. “As we approach America250, it’s critical that our efforts remain bi-partisan and reach our goal of engaging 350 million Americans.”

Not all people familiar with the operation agree that Abergel is the best pick for the job. “He’s not necessarily doing anything bad, and he’s a super-nice guy and wants to do a good job,” another person familiar with the arrangement told us. “But the idea he’d be put in charge of this is kind of insane.”

The full scope of the changes at the group has not been made clear. A list of America250 “ambassadors”—including the musicians Gloria Estefan and Lance Bass, and former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown—has been pulled off its website for reasons that have not been explained, while photos of Trump have been added in recent weeks. Meta was included on the website as an America250 donor earlier this spring and then removed; a Meta spokesperson said the company is not a donor. Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama remain honorary co-chairs of America250 with former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura. Obama’s spokesperson declined to comment on changes at the group.

America250 was involved in fundraising for Trump’s campaign-style rally Tuesday at Fort Bragg. Before the event, military authorities at the base vetted the troops who were going to sit behind Trump, ensuring that they had passed background checks, had presentable uniforms, and were in good physical shape, according to a military spokesperson. Some jeered and booed as Trump attacked the “fake news” media, derided President Joe Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom, called Los Angeles a “trash heap,” and described the protesters around the country who object to his immigration policies as a “foreign invasion.”

A vendor of pro-Trump merchandise was given a space near the rally site in what amounted to a violation of base rules. “The Army does not endorse political merchandise or the views it represents," Colonel Mary Ricks, a spokesperson for the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, said in a statement. “The vendor’s presence is under review to determine how it was permitted and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”

Trump named Justin Caporale, who produced rallies for Trump’s campaign, to be “the executive producer for major events and public appearances” for “my outside operation,” in a December 31 social-media post. Caporale’s firm was involved in staging the Fort Bragg event, and will produce Saturday’s parade, people involved told us. Although the XVIII Airborne Corps facilitated the entry of local dignitaries and other VIP guests of the military for Tuesday’s event, that was unrelated to any VIP donors invited by the White House as part of the “VIP experience” for donors to America250, an individual familiar with the matter told us.

They referred further questions to Caporale’s firm, Event Strategies Inc., which did not respond to a request for comment.

“There will be catcalls and detractors that will try to make this political,” LaCivita told us. “But the mission is to activate and include 350 million Americans in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.”

🧿 Tarot Readings 🧿

Hello everybody! This is a post with updated information on the paid tarot readings that I offer mostly from this blog.

A Little About Me:

 I have been doing tarot readings for around eight years now. I started with a simple Ryder Waite deck, and have since evolved over time in both my views on the meanings of the cards as well as my perspective on tarot as a whole, for me, tarot is an incredibly useful tool for emotional and mental awareness, and provides a very good space for people to connect with themselves and reflect on their surroundings and how, different aspects of their lives both internal and external are affecting current scenarios are problems. I used tarot mainly with the intention of giving people a space to see their current state laid out in front of them, with no running away or hiding from your problems. It becomes a really great opportunity to confront any emotions that you may have been hiding from and reflect on why these emotions may be present. My biggest goal is to uplift people and to find solace in what the cards have to say. All my messages have the intention of bringing people closer to who they really want to be.

Also, another important thing to know is that on top of doing terror readings I also have a number of Oracle decks that I like to use or combine with my tarot to give a fully customized reading, depending on what the person getting the reading wants :) I’ve been doing Oracle readings for less time than my tarot, but I still do appreciate them as a really great tool for the reasons described above.

What do you get with a paid reading?

I do offer free single card readings on this blog, which I answer whenever I have the opportunity to. If you do ever want to get a small taste of how my readings work, that would be a really good way to get a sample. my paid readings, however, are first and foremost time sensitive – I make sure that they get to you as soon as humanly possible and they often have much higher priority on my list because you are paying for my service. You also get a chance to chat with me in a way that you wouldn’t be able to with a free reading – we can talk about what your goals are and what you hope to gain from the reading, You get to choose from my selection of decks, you get obviously multiple cards read to you if you wish, and both you and I can communicate with each other on what is going well in the reading and what things you may not connect with as much.

How much does a paid reading cost?

What you pay honestly depends on what you can afford or what you were willing to give. I usually gauge Celtic cross style readings with 10 cards starting at around 15 CAD, and will usually give more cards if more is paid less if less is paid. All of these things are things that you and I can talk about however, and none of these prices are set in stone. A lot of the time people want a set price, which is why I am giving these numbers now, but honestly whatever you’re willing to give, I would be very happy to accommodate :)

How do I get a paid reading?

I will link my ko-fi page below so that you can give donations from there. Usually you will put in an amount that you are willing to give, and there will be a small text box where you can add a message in that box I ask people to give their name their preferred pronouns, and a place that I can contact them further. You can give your Tumblr username, your email, your Instagram… other social media platforms I honestly don’t use as much. I’ll contact you from there and we can talk a little bit about your reading and what you’re looking for. Why is landing an Internship as a Computer Engineering/Computer Science Student so hard ?

I apologize for my long absence—life caught me off guard with a lot of work and projects. Now that I finally have some time, I wanted to make a post to connect with you all. Thank you so much for 1,000 subscribers! I know maintaining a community requires consistent posting, and I feel like many of you might have forgotten about me. But I promise to make something big out of this. I've been thinking about starting a newsletter where you can receive weekly emails from me, discussing something I learned that week or anything that intrigued me and I felt like sharing.

Now, back to our question: Is it really hard to land an internship as a computer science student? The answer is yes, and as a computer engineering student myself, I can attest to this.

I've often wondered why it's so difficult. After some observations, I discovered that almost every computer science student's resume looks the same. The portfolios are nearly identical, lacking uniqueness. If you've studied at the same school as your friends, what would make a recruiter choose you over them?

This is where uniqueness and a sense of self come in. Your portfolio or website should reflect exactly who you are as a person and highlight your strengths.

The second crucial factor is dedication. I've had classmates who are extremely dedicated. They might not have any special skills, but they show immense interest in what they want to do. This drive is palpable, and recruiters can sense it too.

Sometimes, the resume isn't even the most important aspect. For big companies like Oracle, what you say and know during the interview and technical tests matters more. The resume is just the very first step.

So, what I've learned along the way can be summed up in two words: uniqueness and dedication.

Now how to Create the Perfect Resume to Land an Internship as a Student ?

1. Keep the design simple:

Avoid extra designs or too many colors. While uniqueness is important, recruiters generally do not favor overly designed resumes.

2. Structure your resume properly:

- The Resume Header

Contact Information:

Full name and title: List your first and last name. Use the title of the role you want instead of your current title.

Professional email address: Use a clean format like firstname.lastname@gmail.com.

Phone number: Choose the number you check most frequently. Record a professional voicemail greeting if yours is too casual.

Address: List only your city and state. Let recruiters know if you're willing to relocate if applicable.

LinkedIn or other professional social media: Include your LinkedIn profile if it's active and relevant. List any portfolios or computer engineering-related sites.

- The Resume Summary

A paragraph where you describe yourself by answering these questions:

What is your professional style? (Use one or two descriptive words such as patient, critical thinker, consensus builder, excellent designer.)

What is your greatest engineering strength?

What will you add to this particular team?

What is your process for building and maintaining computer networks?

What are you proudest of in your career?

Example:

Motivated computer engineering student with a strong foundation in software development and solid analytical and problem-solving skills. Looking for an opportunity to enhance my skills in a challenging professional environment.

- The Employment History Section

Be specific about how you contributed to each position and the impact you made.

List the job title, organization name, dates of employment, and 3–6 bullet points showcasing your achievements.

Start each bullet point with a strong action verb like collaborated or designed.

Highlight significant achievements rather than just listing responsibilities.

If you have no experience, include a projects section. This will act as your experience. Highlight how you worked on each project and your passion for it.

- The Skills Section

Combine hard and soft skills. The skills section is often the first place recruiters look to ensure you have the key abilities they're seeking. Your entire resume should support the skills you list here.

- The Education and Certifications Section

List your education, including any relevant courses or special achievements during your degree. Also, mention any certifications you have, whether from freeCodeCamp, Google, Coursera, etc.

This is an expansion of my tried-and-true reading method where I pull cards based on your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant signs. In the past, I have intuitively chosen decks (tarot, oracle, and sometimes runes) - in this iteration, I am using the traditional tarot associations with the Signs, Houses, and Planets.

I will then add the card representative of your sign for each pile and draw an additional card for June. The piles will be read as a synthesis of the energy of June, your natural energy (based on your birth chart), and what stands before you for the month.

The TL:DR is that my DSLR broke and I need to replace it. I work as an artist and freelance photographer, so the longer I don't have a camera, the worse off I am financially.
